#TravelTuesday: NYC Edition

May 31, 2016

Thomas and I are certainly adventurers, and adventure is surely one of the many things that brings us together as a dynamic duo. In college, long before we were dating, we could always count on one another to hop in the car for spontaneous shenanigans. And one of the things I love about the combo of our jobs is the general flexibility we have to adventure together to really cool places. When Thomas took his job in Atlanta, his promise to me was that we would continue to travel and explore the world together…so, he promptly applied for a Gold Delta Skymiles card. Between the two of us, we’ve racked up quite a few skymiles and enjoyed some sweet perks—like our annual free companion flight. This year, we toyed with a trip to California but landed on NYC when it coincided with a business trip in Manhattan for Thomas. Super decision. At the end of March, we spent six days gallivanting around Manhattan neighborhoods, eating our way through the city and visiting with friends and family.

Notable highlights not featured in photos, but exist on our phones:  the discovery of Urban Space (much like Krog Street Market here in Atlanta, and the realization that ATL is the poor man’s NYC) and ending my Whole30 there, a wildly colorful and musical Indian restaurant experience with Shalea…and speakeasies, pizza/beer snacks before Chicago, overpriced wine during Chicago, midnight dinner of a HUGE chicken biscuit piled with homemade pickles after Chicago, Black Tap Burger and shake (just google it), cookies from Levain in the Upper West Side, taking a PB class with Pure Barre NYC-Union Square (thanks gals!), riding/walking/exploring/adventuring/breathing in all the things everywhere with people I love, all the food comas AND my personal fave—FINALLY seeing Les Misérables.  I bawled like a baby, y’all.

When I brought my camera along for one full morning of exploration, I felt inspired by shapes and lines and contrasts of old/new and urban/natural along the route (mostly Chelsea/the Highline). Pretty sure NYC is on my wedding wishlist. Imagine a bride swishing through these city scenes!  Manhattan elopement, anyone?!

The last shots are from our side trip to visit my Aunt Dana out in the Hamptons—a quick trip, but a fun one! Check out those lobsters!!

Special thanks to Shalea for traipsing around with this little tourist and showing me how to use the subway; to my dear crazy (runs in the fam, you see?) aunties, Dinty and Hannah, driving into the city to meet us and treat us to fun times; to my badass cousin Laurel and her fur child Mantis for hosting us for the night, providing excellent recs and great company to boot; to Aunt Dana for cheering on the Heels with us post-lobsters+wine; and of course, Weasel Boy for being the best darn dog model a gal could ask for! Also thanks to all of you who shared your favorite city escapades with me!

And, as always, stay tuned for the next journey!
